Guild members gathered on Saturday the 25th at Eddie’s house for the second monthly gathering of the guild. The gathering started at 1pm with a club judging of stouts to determine the beer that will represent the club at the Stout It Out AHA Club Only Competition. Two great stouts were entered and judged by Gabe, Jon, Eddie and Ryan. The stouts were judged blindly and the winner determined to be Jon’s Oatmeal Stout. Honorable mention goes out to Gabe for his tasty oatmeal stout entry. Thanks to Ryan for bringing his judging experience to the table to help us make our decision and to Scott for his help.
We then fired up the burners and further braved the frigid mid thirties temps when we started brewing around 3. Jon and Dan both brought our their equipment to brew. Jon brewed up an all grain original recipe – Redlegs Rye and Dan brewed an Imperial Nut Brown. Between the homebrew, fire, and Oatmeal Stout chili we managed to stay relatively warm and get through the brew day. A great time was had by all as we talked recipes, techniques, all-grain brewing and enjoyed some great homebrew together. A perfect way to say goodbye to winter!
A huge thanks goes out to Eddie for hosting this month’s gathering. A big thanks also goes out to Gabe, Scott, Dan, and Ryan for braving the cold and making out to the gathering.
Keep an eye on the calendar for the date and location of the March gathering and other great upcoming guild events!
