From the AHA Big Brew Day SiteIn 1988, May 7 was announced before Congress as National Homebrew Day. The American Homebrewers Association (AHA) created AHA Big Brew as an annual event to celebrate National Homebrew Day around the world. AHA Big Brew is held each year on the first Saturday in May.

Here are the registered events for this year near us – if you have the time and availability it is always a great time to hang out with other home brewers and celebrate our craft. As is tradition there will be a world wide toast to home brewing at 1PM so raise a glass of your favorite home-brew – or someone elses and celebrate the greatest hobby around!

Kentucky:

Orchard Ridge Wine and Brew Shoppe

“Our event will start at 11:00am, with light snacks available.”

Ohio:

Rivertown Brewing Company

“Cincinnati Local Homebrew Clubs collaborate on Big Brew Day. Join members of the Bloatarian Brewing League, Cincinnati Malt Infusers and Delhi Mashers at Rivertown Brewery. Bring your system & brew, or just stop by to watch, learn and talk! Big Brew starts at 9 am. The Rivertown Tap Room opens at noon. Weather permitting, a food vendor will be at the brewery in the afternoon. Feel free to bring snacks, etc. for the morning.”

Indiana:

Great Crescent Brewery

“Join Great Crescent Brewery in celebrating National Homebrew Day which was designated by the US Congress in 1988. We will be brewing a 5 gallon batch of the official recipe “Old School Barleywine” – The first year that the American Homebrewers Association celebrated Big Brew was in 1998. That year, the AHA encouraged homebrewers worldwide to brew a Barleywine recipe. Now we are celebrating the 19th Big Brew, and they are bringing Barleywine back for the first time since 1998!”
